Lets Go Global will be involved in the next Connecting 2.0 Communities Drop in on 22^nd September at MADLAB. 2.00-6.30pm

This is a partnership between Manchester City Council, MADLAB and Greater Manchester’s various digital communities.

The event will be held at MADLAB

On the GROUND FLOOR there will be a range of Digital Experts and Advisors who are happy to speak to you about your own organisation’s needs, to signpost you to where you might get further help, or to let you know about the various services and user groups that they represent.

On the SECOND FLOOR there will be  a series of short presentations from 4.30-5.30pm.

Over the last few months service users from Phoenix Futures have been working with Lets Go Global to produce their own film.

The film follows three different people, who tell us their own stories about how they are working to overcome drug & alcohol addictions with the support from Trafford Phoenix Future’s staff and each other.

The film aims to promote Phoenix Futures, Structured Day, Aftercare and Resettlement Services, and will be used to sign post other service users to the programme.

There will be refreshments and a chance to meet some of the artists and people who were involved in making the film.

Lets Go Global is holding an opening night & exhibition at the hub in Salford to showcase a video and photographs of the recent take over of Eccles Shopping Centre as part of the Zombie Nation pervasive games project. Please pop in on the opening night @ 6.30pm Wednesday 4th August for drinks and a few nibbles if you dare! Otherwise the work will be shown until 3rd September 2010.

Lets Go Global had a brilliant day taking over Eccles Shopping Centre dressed as zombies on Saturday July 17th. There were pervasive games, loads of make-up artists and lots of people taking part in a truly scary event.

Young people from Salford Lads Club did an amazing flash mob dance to Michael Jackson’s thriller in the middle of the shopping centre, attracting a lively audience of local farmers and shoppers.

A film & photographs of the day will be exhibited at The Hub shop in Salford – check back on this website shortly for dates and times. A big thank you to everyone who was involved!

So you want to be a Zombie? Or maybe you think you can save Salford from the living dead when they invade the shopping centre this month. Come along to Lets Go Global on Thursday July 8th at 6pm for an open night to register your interest in this exciting pervasive gaming experience.

Warning! An invasion of Zombies will be taking over Eccles Shopping Centre on Saturday 17th July as part of a pervasive gaming experience. Can you save the people of Salford from the Living Dead?

For one day only, there will be frightening farmers, chilling performances, and swarms of Zombies roaming the stores hunting for their next victim!

The only way to stop the Zombie shop-fest is to get involved. We’ve created a deadly game to play using cutting-edge technologies and cunning clues for you to hunt for around the Centre, leading to the antidote for the Zombie curse.

There will be four games on the day, each game will last approximately 30 – 40 minutes, followed by an optional hour to edit the scary movie mash-up.

The games are limited to 15 players per games – you can sign-up on the day but make sure you come early to avoid Zombie disappointment.

Come dressed in your scariest outfit or get the Zombie mark on the day!

This project is part of Eccles Festival, Salford Univeristy Hub programme, in collaboration with Lets Go Global, Trafford Council & Eccles Shopping centre.

Lets Go Global has been commissioned by Trafford Children’s  & Young People’s Service,  Family Engagement programme to deliver an innovative animation project exploring positive body image and healthy life styles.

The workshops are available for anyone aged 13 years or above, living in Trafford. The workshops will take place at Lets Go Global, Old Trafford and at Waterside Arts Centre, Sale on the following dates:

Consultancy brief: Pixelate Project Evaluation 2006-10

Lets Go Global is seeking a consultant to provide an independent evaluation of the Pixelate, community media project.

Introduction and Background

Lets Go Global is a pioneering media project, run by and for the diverse communities of Greater Manchester. Founded in 2003, Lets Go Global is based in Old Trafford and forms part of Trafford Council’s Transformation & Resources Department.

Our mission is to enable creativity for all through technology. We do this by delivering a range of projects, commissions & training. We support people and organisations to become producers, publishers and distributors of their own content and participants in the new digital age.

Pixelate is a Lets Go Global project, and since July 2006 has delivered community-led strategic arts projects with a wide range of organisations and groups across Greater Manchester.

The project is being delivered in two phases. Each phase of the project includes the design, development and delivery of a series of innovative creative media projects with groups of local residents from across Greater Manchester. The projects are delivered in partnership with local authority arts officers and community based organisations. Phase 1 (July 2006-June 2008) saw projects delivered in: Rochdale, Salford, Tameside and Wigan. During Phase 2 (July 2008 – Oct 2010) we are undertaking projects in Bury, Bolton, Manchester, Oldham and Stockport.

The main aim and objectives of the Pixelate project are:

Aim
• To increase the creation of new media content across the communities of Greater Manchester in order to combat social exclusion and enable local people to play a more active and creative role in their community.

Objectives
• To increase the production of high quality digital content through creative media project work across Greater Manchester.
• To roll out the Lets Go Global model of producing digital content with local people and artists for live broadcast/archive over the web.
• To combat social exclusion and increase participation in the arts and creative technology, enabling groups who do not normally have access to creative media facilities to create and direct their own work.
• To enable local people to have an active and creative role in their own community leading to the development of more vibrant and proud communities within Greater Manchester.
• To liaise and advise the districts on establishing local authority and/or community online media channels.
• To improve individual employability (particularly in the creative sector) and visibility of the groups and communities involved, helping to reduce the digital divide.
• To develop partnerships with organisations within the districts in order to support their continued growth of creative media and ICT work.
The Pixelate project is funded by the Greater Manchester Strategic Arts Fund through the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities and Arts Council England North West.

The Brief

The Pixelate project has been an innovative and exciting project for Lets Go Global that has delivered a broad range of work, with a variety of different groups across the whole of the Greater Manchester region. We feel that this work, its delivery and impact need to be assessed and documented.

This brief invites expressions of interest from consultants or practitioners who can undertake an independent evaluation of the project and produce a comprehensive report.

An evaluation of this project would allow us to demonstrate what has been achieved, to provide a legacy for the project and to work as an advocacy document for dissemination within the community arts sector.

We are looking for someone with:

- a clear and considered methodology and approach to the brief

- knowledge and experience of undertaking consultancy at this level, with an understanding of the public sector, arts development and community work

- knowledge and experience of evaluating arts led community projects

- an awareness of new technologies and the wider strategic landscape

The consultant will be expected to work alongside a film-maker who will be creating a video version of the evaluation including interviews with project stakeholders and examples of work produced.

The Outcome

There will be two main outcomes for this work:

- a hard copy evaluation report for the full 4 years of the Pixelate project (expected to be no more than 30 pages) and a downloadable PDF accessible from the Pixelate website.

- input into the production of a video evaluation

Timescales & Fee

The work will take place between June and October 2010.

The fee for this work will be £2000.

Application Process

- details of who will make up the project team (if relevant),

The closing date will be Wednesday 26th May 2010 at 5pm and interviews will be held in early June.

The appointed consultant will be notified immediately and will then have 3 months to prepare a draft report. The successful applicant will then be expected to present findings, and following responses be able to submit a final report by the end of October.
